Technology Integration

building block two
My second building block was to study how to adequately integrate technology into all content areas and more specifically, writing instruction. One of my original goals for this program was to find out what does research say about effective ways to integrate technology. My purpose in wanting to understand this was so that I could appropriately use technology to enhance a students experience with reading and writing. Researchers Anderson and Mims (2014) discovered that “When digital tools traditionally used outside of the classroom are invited into the classroom, there is potential not only to motivate students and connect with their interests and experiences, but also to enhance key components of effective writing instruction, such as idea development and writing for authentic purposes and audiences” (p.609). I came to the conclusion that since technology is so accessible to students in the classroom and beyond, I needed to utilize their skill set and incorporate it into my daily instruction. I learned how to infuse technology in my classroom to not only increase engagement, but to also differentiate for my students, and build their confidence in literacy endeavors. I studied the TPACK framework and constantly thought about how to integrate my content, pedagogy, and technology knowledge for the betterment of my instruction. At the conclusion of Teachers as Researchers, I was confident that now my students were receiving quality instruction. The technology was infused so each student was able to get his/her needs met throughout the Writers Workshop. However, I still had the urge to push my students one step further and that lead me to seeking an understanding of how I can cultivate global learners through authentic writing experiences.
